Why I Swapped Silk for Bamboo

A few years ago, I was on the hunt for something simple: a way to protect my curls overnight without waking up to a flat, frizzy mess. Every recommendation pointed the same direction: silk. Silk pillowcases, silk bonnets, silk everything.

There was just one problem. Silk is animal-derived, and that never sat right with me. I wanted the softness it promised, but not the material itself.

So I started looking for a vegan, silk-free alternative, and bamboo kept coming up. It's smooth, breathable, and gentle on hair in a way that mimics what silk does, without asking an animal to make it happen. That search became BetterBe.

Every bamboo bonnet is still handmade here in Berlin, in small batches, because I'd rather get the details right than rush a big run. It's slower, but it's the whole point: something that feels genuinely good to use and to make.

If you've been curious about switching, or just want fewer frizzy mornings, I hope this explains why we make what we make. Thank you for being part of it from the beginning.
